Clockwork Ballerina Spectra

So I finally did manage to finish my clockwork ballerina. She's from a Spectra that my boyfriend of all people snagged back when I was having issues trying to find anywhere. Course now I see them everywhere so I made him buy a doll for nothing (oops? haha) And a huge thanks to Jamie and her hot new camera for snapping these!

She's had an extensive list of things done to her. I drilled a hole in her chest to put in that crystal, then also attached tiny watch bits that I got from ripping apart just so many watches. Her corset is copper wire shaped to her, with the larger bits being apoxie to cover the pointy bits. I chopped her toes off (ouch) to sculpt her pointe shoes on. And the metal bands on her arms and legs are from a bracelet I found at a yard sale. They keep her from bending her knees but also I snapped her legs off at the calf and had to reglue them so they didn't bend even before I put the bracelet on. She's also the first doll that I did the faceup solely in pastels and watercolor pencils. Her eyes are pretty ghostly, so I'm pretty happy with it. This one I might have to keep.

And then one of my updated little Atlantis warrior. Her costume is covering a lot of her tattoos but believe me when I say she has the white geometric tattoos up her whole leg, on her side, one her arms, like all over. She'll be heading up for sale as soon as I bother taking more (much more terrible) pictures of her.

Some quick summer updates

I'm not dead, I've just been super busy with work, and also with making a 16 foot tall paper mache Godzilla, for reasons that are inexplicable. But I AM also painting some dolls. I accidentally broke off a Draculaura's leg and...since I couldn't reattach it without causing some severe issues, I decided I would make her a new leg. A better leg. A sword leg.

The basic outline of the sword. I still wanted it to be kind of girly and leg-ish looking. Plus I mean she should also be able to at least balance on it and it would be hard to do that if it wasn't a scimitar style. This I did out of apoxie sculpt.

Then time for some embellishment. I wanted there to be some wire swirls as if that was how it was attached, and also just to look cool really.

And then of course I didn't take any progress pictures. But what I did was I ended up painting the wire gold for some more contrast, doing her hair style, making a bunch of swords, and a kimono for her.
Unfortunately, I have to redo basically everything because...it all broke. The apoxie leg was too thin in the middle and I snapped it a BUNCH of times trying to get the wire onto it. The swords I sculpted I made out of paper clay, which was a mistake because I snapped those too trying to stick them in her hair and kimono. So I will have to redo her sword leg and her extra swords. But at least her face and kimono are done?

Luckily, I snapped a (single, terrible, not full length) picture before all her bits broke. So here is a basic shot of sword leg assassin girl. Once I fix her (again) I'll get some better pictures.

I also have in the words an Atlantis warrior girl who just needs an outfit, a clockwork ballerina who still needs more embellishment and also a face, and I want to make another Medusa girl. I'll hopefully have some better pictures and updates to post soon!

Whoa It's Been Awhile - Store Updates!

Ok so we had an absolutely terrible winter. And then I've been busy with a legit job (hooray) so I haven't had a lot of time to paint. Of COURSE this weekend when I was totally all into it....rainstorm and flooding. Bah. So in lieu of getting to paint new dolls, I'm going to putting up a few old ones for sale. And you can buy them HERE!

Including this lovely Ghoulia repaint

She is quite possibly one of my favorite repaints ever. Her hair is "styled" with a prayer and hairspray but the good news is, it's totally mohair so you can restyle it however you want! She's also glued to hell and back into that outfit. As such, she totally cannot move her legs apart, she can't really sit, and she can't really move her arms all that much. But she's so pretty I didn't even care when I finished her. She was in fact the one doll I wanted to keep for me BUT I broke the leg off a geisha inspired Draculaura repaint I did and now I feel bad for that one and want to keep her, so this Ghoulia has got to go.

The next girl on the list to get sold is this Skelita repaint. No new hair, no body mods, nothing particularly crazy. I just wanted to do a Day of the Dead makeup paint and she happened to be perfect. She's really cute and I kind of love the fact that she's a skeleton but the rule is one stays, the rest must go, so she's on the cutting block. She's not actually wearing an outfit I made (like I could sew that nicely) but rather from a Volks 1/6th Dollfie (that I also plan to repaint and probably sell haha). It totally doesn't fit her tiny skeleton chest SO the Frankie vest is keeping it closed. Plus it matches those fabulous shoes.

So that's all I've got for updates until the weather and work clear up and I can get back to painting. These two lovely ladies will be up for sale on the Etsy site tonight, so keep an eye out!
